Baseblue expands LNG bunkering
The operation, carried out off the coast of Portland, Jamaica, involved the transfer of approximately 8,800 MMBtu of LNG to the vessel Gold Trader. As part of the process, a critical cooldown of the receiving vessel was performed – an essential technical step that ensures the safe handling of cryogenic fuel.
“We are extremely proud to have safely and successfully completed this LNG supply in a new region for Baseblue,” said Dionysis Diamantopoulos, head of alternative fuels at Baseblue.
“While the operation was not unprecedented, it represents an important step in our efforts to provide flexible and reliable LNG solutions to clients across more locations.”
Previously active in Europe and Asia, this is Bluebase’s inaugural LNG bunkering operation in the Caribbean, strengthening its presence in emerging LNG markets.
“This was a milestone for us, not only for Baseblue but for the wider group’s LNG efforts in the Americas,” said Vaibhaav Srinath Dev, key accounts manager at Baseblue.
“The operation required a high level of planning and coordination with vessel owners, suppliers and technical teams. It also serves as a strong relationship builder with key industry partners in the region.”
The company emphasised that this successful operation sets the stage for further LNG bunkering activity in the region and reflects its long-term commitment to sustainable marine fuel alternatives.
