Bestobell secures high-pressure valve orders
The valves will be used within the pump and vapouriser skids for six LNG carriers that are being built in South Korea at Samsung Heavy Industries. The LNG carriers will also be fitted with the MAN ME-GI engine.
Duncan Gaskin, sales director, said: “With the introduction of the MAN ME-GI engine two years ago and with now over 100 sold, it is driving a rapid increase in demand for high pressure cryogenic valves for fuel gas systems.”
“We are helping to meeting the challenge created by this demand with our new range of high pressure valves. These latest orders have really put our valves at the forefront of this exciting new market.”
Bestobell’s high-pressure valves are designed to stand a maximum pressure of 370 bar and the company is also developing another range of valves that can operate up to a 635 bar.
Currently Bestobell is said to be the only established manufacturer of Cryogenic globe valves for use on ships that are fire safe and have the necessary class approvals and certifications.
Duncan Gaskin continued: “In the marine sector it is important to ensure all of the necessary documentation is provided that allow Class surveyors to check all components have come from approved sources, have the correct identification codes and have been subject to the correct testing.”
“We see time and again non-marine suppliers offering valves as suitable for an application, but not understanding the documentation and approval requirements.”
“Because of our experience in this area, it means our customers are assured that the valve they receive is fully tested and certified and fit for purpose,” he concluded.
