BIO-UV completes cruise fleet programme
The final vessel in the programme, delivered from the Saint-Nazaire yard at the end of last year, was equipped with a BIO-SEA B-Series system capable of treating ballast-water flow rates of 250m³/h. The completion of the project means every vessel in the class now operates with BIO-SEA ultraviolet ballast-water treatment technology onboard.
Maxime Dedeurwaerder, sales director for BIO-UV Group’s solutions, described the programme as an important achievement for the company and its long-standing shipyard partnership.
“Supplying ballast-water treatment systems to all five vessels is a significant milestone for BIO-UV Group and confirms the strength of our long-term partnership with Chantiers de l’Atlantique and this cruise brand,” he said.
“This class sets high expectations for environmental performance and we are proud that our technology meets those standards consistently across the fleet.”
BIO-SEA B-Series systems use ultraviolet light rather than chemicals or active substances to treat ballast water, enabling compliance with IMO D-2 discharge regulations while reducing operational complexity and maintenance requirements.
Dedeurwaerder said cruise operators increasingly favour UV-based systems because they support rapid port turnarounds and avoid the storage and handling challenges associated with chemical treatment technologies.
“The completion of several prestigious cruise ship programmes demonstrates the value of UV-based systems as operators prepare for stricter environmental scrutiny,” he added.
