Chris-Marine launches electric honing machine
The HON EL allows users far greater control over the honing process than hydraulic cylinder lining honing machines. The operator can set the cross pattern, choose the duration of the honing treatment and control which section of the liner to treat.
The new system also features ‘automatic stroke control’ thanks to Chris-Marine’s intelligent turning-point algorithm (ITA) technology. The unit is almost soundless in operation and also hosts a built-in safety feature for when the honing head is removed from the liner.
The company noted that honing the cylinder lining every 15,000 hours can result in a 30% saving in lubricant use. For an engine normally consuming 8,400kg of oil a year, at a cost of US$8 per kilogram, that equates to an annual saving of US$20,160.
The new electrically-driven honing machine is available for the same price as Chris-Marine’s hydraulic version. The company informed The Motorship that the first units will be delivered in August.
