Climeon waste heat recovery system receives DNV approval
The certification by DNV covers a range of maritime uses, including uses in the offshore oil and gas sector. The award lifts the number of classification societies to have awarded approvals to Climeon’s waste heat recovery solution to three.
The Climeon Heat Power System uses waste heat from the engines to heat the vessel but also to generate clean electricity, reducing the vessel’s fuel consumption. The Motorship examined the principles underlying the technology in an article here.
The company confirmed that Climeon Heat Power units are being installed aboard a series of four Virgin Voyages newbuildings under construction by Fincantieri in Italy. Each vessel will feature a 900kW system comprising 6 Heat Power units. The second of the series, Valiant Lady, completed its sea trials in March.
Climeon Heat Power units were also specified for two dual-fuel cruise vessels under construction at Tersan shipyard for Norwegian operator Havila Kystruten. The vessels are due to be handed over to the ship owner in mid-2021.
