DSME to participate in LNG research project
The agreement to establish a “Marine and Offshore Research Institute for Industry and University Research Center” was signed at DSME R&D Center on 19 March with Inha University, a private research institute in Incheon, South Korea.
The ceremony was attended by Dae Woo Lee, president and chief executive officer of DSME, and Myeong-Woo Cho, president of Inha University.
The new research institute will establish industry-academia cooperation and develop greater self-reliance in core technology in the field of LNG carrier ship building and cryogenic research. The institute will conduct a research project into the technology until the end of 2023.
DSME Director Lee Seong-keun said, “A virtuous circle that leads the way in technology development and product linking in the LNG market should continue.” LNG carriers currently constitute the mainstay of the Korean shipbuilding industry.
The institute will also conduct research into future ship technology and weapons systems.
