Fincantieri and Snam to develop LNG infrastructure, new products
Under the preliminary collaboration agreement, Fincantieri and Snam will develop the supply, transformation and use of LNG and alternative energy sources in maritime transport within port facilities or coastal areas.
Fincantieri and Snam are expected to research and commercialise new technologies and innovative energies for maritime transport systems such as turbines for LNG modules, containment and management of liquid and gaseous methane systems. The two partners are also expected to research into innovative energy sources (LNG, hydrogen, fuel cells).
Fincantieri CEO, Giuseppe Bono, declared: “Environmental sustainability is fast becoming a significant megatrend. This agreement will allow us to enhance our wealth of experience and expertise in such a rapidly growing area. It’s a trend that impacts every industry, including the shipping sector, and as such we welcome this important agreement between three Italian powerhouses, with the aim of increasing the positions of acquired leadership.”
On 10 January, Fincantieri announced a strategic partnership with FPT Industrial Marine Applications covering high speed marine engines and auxiliaries, as well as ground power generators. Snam announced a collaboration with Seat, the subsidiary of German carmaker Volkswagen, in November 2018 to expand natural gas infrastructure and develop new products.
