First of series of 12 dual-fuel bulkers completes sea trials
The vessel is expected to be delivered in early March 2023, according to a statement posted by the shipping company. A sister vessel, Mount Ita, was also floated out in late November and is expected to be delivered in Q2 2023. The remaining vessels are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2024.
As previously reported by The Motorship, the ships will be equipped with a MAN B&W ME-GI high-pressure dual-fuel engine, capable of operating on liquefied methane as well as conventional fuels.
The highly efficient series of bulkers will also be fitted with permanent magnet shaft generators with a PTO solution.
Himalaya Shipping also announced in late 2022 that it had concluded a time charter agreement for two of the series of 12 dual-fuel bulkers. The 32-38 month charter will come into effect upon delivery at New Times Shipyard, and includes an option for an 11-13 month extension.
