FleetBroadband from Stratos on Vega ships

The Vega fleet includes 22 container vessels, nine bulkers and two tankers. Eight already have FleetBroadband from Stratos. The systems, based on FleetBroadband 250 terminals with onboard firewall, will be used to provide broadband connectivity at sea, for email, Internet access and voice communications. Other Stratos system enhancements for Vega will include the AmosConnect maritime email application, which has been shown to help the operator with monitoring whitelist and blacklist changes, and Stratos ChatCards for crew calling.

Stratos says that Vega’s other applications for the systems will include planned maintenance systems, purchase systems and remote management, and in the future Vega will have the option to use FleetBroadband for engine-performance analysis and emissions monitoring.

The systems are expected to show a significant cost reduction compared with the Fleet 77 systems previously employed by Vega.
