Further cruiseship orders for integrated systems
Featuring particularly high levels of operational redundancy and functionally integrating inter-switchable SAM X and S-band radars with ECDIS, autopilot and other key navaid sensors, the systems will typically enable planned routes of vessels to be steered to an accuracy of better than half the beam of own ship using precise positioning and speed measurement techniques.
Vessels being equipped with the Nacos systems are Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Magic being built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard, Italy, and Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Silhouette under construction by Meyer Werft in Germany. The other two configurations are destined for Costa Cruises’ Costa Fascionosa and Costa Favolosa, both of which are being completed by Fincantieri at its Breda yard. Supplementary facilities to be fitted to all four ships include integrated automation assemblies for machinery control developed by SAM Electronics’ associate company, Valmarine AS of Norway.
The Nacos 65-5 configurations are identical to that fitted to Cunard’s newest 92,400gt Fincantieri-built liner, Queen Elizabeth, which was officially named in October 2010 before beginning her maiden voyage to the Canary Islands.
The systems form part of a recently extended series of Nacos Platinum models providing a collective range of scalable navigation, automation and control functions using common components and operating networks; two such assemblies have already been commissioned for new 71,000gt Aida cruiseliners building at Meyer Werft in Germany.
