GE and Fincantieri to develop scrubber

The Shipboard Pollutant Removal System will tackle SOx and particulate emissions, and will be suitable for installation on other vessel types using heavy fuel oil.

Under the terms of the agreement Fincantieri will define technical requirements, including design constraints and improvements to develop a competitive product. GE Power will define the features necessary for an emission control system to meet the required performance standards.

Sandro De Poli, president and CEO, GE Italy, added: “We are proud to develop such an innovative solution with one of the main shipbuilders in the world. We will combine Fincantieri expertise and GE’s deep domain experience in air quality technologies for the reduction of pollutants.”

The agreement follows a previous memorandum of understanding between the two companies signed last September.
