Green reefer equipment for Japanese ship
The ship Sanko Spark is changing from R-22 to the non ozone-depleting gas, R-417A, in compliance with EU regulations.
Wilhelmsen Ships Service, which supplies Unitor marine products, says that its engineers have been busy in many places converting R-22 refrigeration systems. The latest job, though, completed at Kimitsu in March 2010, is the first that it has carried out for a Japanese company.
“We are very pleased to have carried out this refrigerant changeover,” said Katsuyoshi Sasaki, account sales manager in Yokohama. “This shows that it is not just European vessels that are changing over to environmentally friendly gases. Japanese companies are also showing a strong interest in reducing their use of ozone-depleting gases.”
The Sanko Steamship Company is a long-established shipping company in Japan. Sanko Line’s operating fleet of 188 vessels consists of carriers for oil, raw materials, grain and other bulk cargoes, break bulk cargoes, forest products, liquefied gases and off-shore support vessels.
As well as the supply of Unitor products, Wilhelmsen Ships Service is involved with, technical services, ships agency services and maritime logistics.
