GTT brings membrane expertise to LPG

The company received general approval for the new technology from Lloyd’s Register at a ceremony held during the Gastech exhibition, taking place in Tokyo this week. The technology uses the Mark III membrane supported by plywood boxes filled with glass wool. GTT says this allows LPG vessels to transport more liquid than competitive technologies, as well as having a lower heat capacity than other systems.

Philippe Berterottière, chairman and CEO, GTT said: “The LPG industry will be able to benefit from a more optimised containment technology allowing the transport of more cargo and shorter cooling down and warming up times than the other systems.”

As with its LNG containment technology, the new LPG concept will enable companies to transport liquids at -55°C or above, with densities up to 700kg/m3.
