GTT to design Germany’s first FSRU
The FSRU with a capacity of 263,000m3 will be fitted with the NO96 membrane cryogenic containment system, a technology developed by GTT. Delivery is scheduled in 2023 and it will be located in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.
“We are delighted to be working with DSME and MOL, two very long-term partners, on this new very large capacity FSRU project,” said Philippe Berterottière, chairman and chief executive of GTT.
The FSRU, expected to be the nation’s first, will be designed to allow for the loading of small-scale barges to enable the use of LNG as marine fuel. Further, onward transportation of LNG on trucks will then be possible.
Wilhelmshaven is the only German deepwater port and can be reached without any tidal constraints. It is also closely located to the existing pipeline and gas storage infrastructure.
A LNG terminal in Germany would strengthen the security of gas supply in the country and increase competition because it enables large quantities of gas to be procured from the global LNG market and thus serves to diversify gas supplies.
