These designs, which will be designed for short to medium-haul bulk trade, are being developed to respond to increased developments in the global supply of gas, where there is a continued need for ship designs to evolve in order to meet the IMO’s NOx and SOx emission regulations.

The 180k DWT class bulk carrier was selected for this design development project because larger newbuilds are expected to be ordered going forward.
Last month, HHI revealed investment plans totaling US$3.1 billion, including US$1.8 billion for the shipbuilding business as the group beings trading as four independent companies. HHI’s investment plan will focus on developing eco-friendly and smart ships, enhancing offshore engineering capability and establishing a ‘smart’ shipyard.
