Maersk looks to LNG

A Maersk Line spokesperson said to The Motorship: “These are not negotiations but exploratory dialogue with relevant stakeholders at this point.”

Maersk, which does a lot of business in Russia in various fields, reportedly said LNG is one of several possible alternative solutions to upcoming IMO emissions limits.

It is understood that the company is in discussions with a number of potential partners before it makes a final decision.

This comes at a time when the use of LNG in the shipping industry is increasing significantly.

Maersk joined other major ship owners, operators and representatives from the industry earlier this year at The Motorship’s ‘Propulsion and Emissions Conference’ and the ‘Gas Fuelled Ships Conference’ to discuss the economics, supply and demand, environmental regulations and finance of LNG.

The use of LNG as a fuel within the shipping industry is expected to increase even more within the next 10 to 15 years.
