Mark III containment for CMA CGMs DF boxships series
The order for the series of six x 13,000-teu and six x 15,000-teu container vessels from two CSSC shipyards, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard, was announced by the diversified liner-shipping and logistics company on 30 April 2021.
Jiangnan Shipyard will construct the series of 15,000-teu vessels, which formed part of an option concluded when a series of 5 x 15,000-teu vessels were ordered in H1 2019. Hudong-Zhonghua will build the series of 13,000-teu vessels.
GTT confirmed in a press release that the vessels will be equipped with GTT’s Mark III membrane containment tanks with a 14,000cbm capacity.
The vessels are understood to be powered by Winterthur-based engine designer WinGD’s low-pressure X-DF 2.0 engines. WinGD was not able to confirm the details of the order.
However, Volkmar Galke, Global Sales Director, WinGD told The Motorship: “The container vessel segment has been exceptionally active this year. We have seen a remarkable order intake for both our X-DF & X-engines this year. CMA CGM continues to be a trail blazer in advancing sustainability in this sector by adopting the most advanced emissions reduction technology available.”
The twelve vessels are expected to be delivered between the last quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2024.
