ME-GA ENGINES FOR LNGC ORDER
The first engine will be delivered to the shipyard in August 2022, according to the engine licensee. A MAN ES representative was unable to confirm the details of the order.
While the order represents a significant milestone for MAN ES’ low-pressure dual-fuel engine, The Motorship reported that the ME-GA engine had already been specified in “several LNG carrier newbuilding projects” in late March, at the time of the first public demonstration.
Thomas S. Hansen – Head of Two-Stroke Promotion & Sales, MAN Energy Solutions commented: “We are very pleased to announce that we have secured the very first orders for our MAN B&W Otto cycle ME-GA engine, in collaboration with our licensee Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The world, as well as the shipping industry, has an increased focus on decarbonization, which in turn has led to an increased focus on the reduction of CO2 and methane slip emissions. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a key technology for an Otto Cycle engine, as EGR has a strong effect on the reduction of emissions and improvement of performance.
We are proud to say that we at MAN ES are the industry leader in the use of EGR with 2-stroke engines, with more than a decade of successful experience from engines in service.
This, combined with our proven track record in bringing reliable dual-fuel technologies to the market, provides assurance that the ME-GA with our well proven, cost-efficient EGR design, safeguards investment. We look forward to announcing more ME-GA orders from other shipyards and engine builders very soon.”
