This is the sixth contract with JERA, following an earlier time charter contract for five LNG carriers.

Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the 290m vessel has a tank capacity of 174,000m³ and will be built at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Shipyard.

The new vessel will be equipped with a MAN Energy Solutions engine (ME-GA), said to improve fuel consumption efficiency, with specifications that enhance its environmental credentials compared to conventional LNG carriers.

MOL is continuing to invest in LNG carriers as part of its environmental strategy which aims to reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

It says it is developing social infrastructure businesses, technologies and services around ocean transport to meet the needs of a wide range of customers.
