MOL orders six large LNG-fuelled vessels
The company signed a deal for construction of four 210,000dwt Capesize bulkers with CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding, the first time MOL has ordered new vessels from this shipyard. The new ships are slated for delivery in succession from 2025 through 2026.
Additionally, two 309,000dwt VLCCs have been ordered from Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The vessels will be built by Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering in China. The vessels are the first LNG-fuelled VLCCs ordered by a Japanese tanker operator and are scheduled for delivery from 2025 through 2026.
The vessels will comply with EEDI Phase 3 (30% reduction from the standard value) regulations.
The MOL Group plans to expand its fleet of LNG-fuelled vessels to about 90 by 2030. With these orders, the Group has now ordered a range of LNG-fuelled vessels including eight car carriers, four ferries, a tugboat, and a coastal cargo vessel. It will further continue to widen the use of LNG fuel as an initiative that it can take now, to accelerate toward the complete elimination of GHG emissions.
