OceanSaver files final USCG type approval application

The company claims to be the first ballast water treatment system supplier in the world to submit final type approval application to the US Coast Guard (USCG) based on the electrodialysis technology.

DNV GL supervised the testing process using the USCG-recognised FDA/CMFDA test method which commenced with land-based tests at DHI’ s facilities in Denmark. Component testing has been carried out by Applica in Norway. Shipboard tests were conducted on the vessel Sheila Ann, owned and operated by CSL with a system with a capacity of 2x2000m3/hr in saline, brackish and fresh water ports on the US pacific coast.

The USCG tests have been carried out on the existing MKII system – type approved by IMO in 2011 – without significant modifications. The same electrodialysis cell and 40um screen filters were employed.
