Pasha Hawaii takes delivery of LNG-fuelled container ship
The 774-foot, 2,525 teu vessel is the first of two new ‘Ohana Class container ships to join Pasha Hawaii’s fleet, serving the Hawaii/mainland trade lane.
The vessel was built by Texas-based Keppel AmFELS and will begin service in August.
Operating fully on natural gas from day one, the new Jones Act vessel surpasses the IMO 2030 emission standards for ocean vessels, representing the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly vessel to serve Hawaii. Energy efficiencies are also achieved with a state-of-the-art MAN engine, an optimized hull form, and a high-efficiency rudder and propeller.
The vessel features a dual-fuel MAN Diesel & Turbo 7S80ME-GI Mk 9.5 main engine that will meet Tier III emission standards by use of an exhaust gas recirculation system and achieve a sailing speed of 23 knots. The vessel also has three MAN 6L35/44DF gensets.
The ‘Ohana Class vessels are named in honour of George Pasha, III and Janet Marie, the late parents of The Pasha Group President and CEO George Pasha, IV, marking three generations of service to Hawaii. The second vessel, Janet Marie, is expected to be delivered later this year.
