SCF orders gas-fuelled aframax quartet
The ice class 1A tankers, measuring 250m loa and with a beam of 44m, are scheduled to be delivered from the third quarter of 2018. Hyundai noted that by running on LNG, the tankers will emit 90% less SOx, 80% less NOx and 15% less CO2 as well as halving engine noise.
In a statement the shipbuilder said: “We believe the winning of the world’s first LNG-fuelled aframax tankers is the proof of our world’s leading eco-friendly shipbuilding technology. As the demand for eco-ships increases with tightening environmental regulations, we will further accelerate our efforts to win eco-ship orders.”
The Motorship understands that the tankers will be powered by WinGD’s X-DF two-stroke dual-fuel engines.
