Stena tackles emissions with Lemag equipment

First installed on the Stena Carrier, the water-in-fuel (WIF) equipment has also reduced black smoke at start-up and, where selective catalytic reduction is in place, allowed chief engineers to harness the reduced exhaust temperatures to reduce the use of urea.

The complete Slashpol E-WIF system comprises torsion meters, Coriolis (or positive displacement) fuel meters, and Lemag’s V-Per monitoring and management system, as well safety devices in a virtually plug and play installation. The planning and installation of the systems is carried out by Lemag technicians to ensure that the system operates safely and efficiently. Depending on the vessel, it can be carried out almost entirely in service with minimal disruption to the vessels operation.

Lemag has worked closely with additive supplier Hybrid Fuel Technology (HFT) to produce specifically formulated stabilisers for the whole range of fuels available on the market, enhancing the stability of the water and fuel emulsion. The combination of equipment and additive is said to result in significantly increased fuel economy while reducing NOx, black smoke and particulate matter, and CO2 emissions.
