Successful GX trials for Intellian

The first, fully live system test at sea of the GX network was carried out with the 60cm Intellian GX60 and the larger 1m Intellian GX100 VSAT terminals, onboard the container ship Hyundai Bangkok, en route from Busan in South Korea to Hong Kong, crossing the South China Sea. The GX60 and GX100 achieved a download speed of 24mbps and an upload speed of 4mbps.

The GX60 and GX100 include a new Intellian GX below deck unit (BDU) which features an integrated GX modem. The terminals allow automatic satellite and beam switching for seamless GX coverage when crossing from one satellite coverage region to another. They are capable of an elevation angle of -20° to ensure connectivity at high latitudes. The GX60 and GX100 have been developed for use on the GX network and will be available for delivery when the GX service goes live.

CEO Eric Sung said Intellian is proud to have been selected to prove the upcoming Global Xpress network at sea with its new dedicated Ka-band antennas. He said: “With extensive testing together with the Inmarsat team we were able to prove the network and equipment through various user platforms. We obtained impressive speed tests and delivered video direct from the ship back to our colleagues exhibiting at the recent SMM Hamburg event.”
