Titan secures e-methane bunkering supply

The agreement aims to scale alternative fuels availability across Titan’s network of 52 ports, leveraging existing LNG infrastructure to accelerate adoption and meet growing regulatory and commercial demand for lower-emission marine energy.

Low-carbon alternative

E-methane is emerging as a drop-in, low-carbon alternative to natural gas without the need for major infrastructure change.

TURN2X’s plant in Miajadas converts renewable energy and biogenic CO₂ into ISCC-certified e-Methane, a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO).

The fuel is injected into the grid and transported to major ports via Europe’s gas grid, where Titan conducts ship bunkering operations for maritime customers seeking compliance with tightening emissions rules.

Titan said that e-methane offers net-zero greenhouse gas emissions on a well-to-wake basis, alongside up to 95% reductions in nitrogen oxides and near elimination of sulphur oxides and particulate matter.

These characteristics position it as a key alternative fuel under the EU’s FuelEU Maritime framework, enabling overcompliance and participation in pooling mechanisms.

The supply agreement also aligns with Europe’s broader energy strategy, as the EU phases out Russian LNG contracts by 2027, increasing the need for scalable, domestically produced alternative fuels.
