Union Maritime in savings financed scrubber deal
The ENVI-Marine scrubber will be fitted to the main engine of 13,000dwt chemical tanker Westminster in the first quarter of 2017. The installation will allow it to save an expected US$2,700 a day by continuing to burn HFO rather than switching to low-sulphur fuel oil.
Union Maritime will transfer the daily saving to Pacific Green until the system cost has been repaid. As part of the deal the ship owner has guaranteed that the vessel will operate 145 days a year. Operating for 145 days a year in ECAs would mean a payback time of around five years.
The ship owner has agreed to purchase a further 10 systems if the arrangement is successful.
