World’s first 6-way dynamic valve launches

The company has reduced some of the complexity in 4-pipe heating and cooling systems by minimising the number of required valve components. Until now it has only been possible to operate these systems dynamically by combining a static 6-way valve with a pressure independent control valve (PICV), thus requiring two valves, two actuators, connecting pipes and a control box.

“With the COMBIFLOW 6-Way solution, you need only one valve and one actuator to achieve complete pressure independent balancing and control,” said Rasmus Frimann Nielsen, global product manager for Frese Marine. “By integrating the differential pressure controller in the valve, you have fewer connection points, and with just one actuator you only need one data point to the ship’s control system,” he added.

Frese will deliver the COMBIFLOW 6-Way with a Multi Rotary Actuator capable of operating with four different control signals: 0-10V and 4-20mA, as well as BACnet and Modbus communication protocols. Frese is also launching a low flow DN15 version, which ensures better control of the comparatively low heating flows.

Frese’s control valves, such as the Optima Compact and new 6-way solution for which the company has a patent pending, save energy by maximising Delta T and eliminating overflows in the system. During testing, the COMBIFLOW 6-Way has shown the lowest pressure loss known in the market, resulting in significant pump energy savings.

The valve also has a built-in pressure relief feature, which ensures that the fan coil will not break as a result of increased pressure when the valve is in closed position.
