DFDS inks BWMS fleet deal with DESMI

The agreement between DFDS and DESMI covers more than 40 ferries. The vessels will be retrofitted between early 2020 and the end of 2024. Most of the vessels will be retrofitted with either a CompactClean-340 or a CompactClean-500 system, with maximum flow capacities of 340 m3/h and 500 m3/h respectively. A few vessels will be retrofitted with higher capacity CompactClean BWMS with 750 m3/h or 1000 m3/h capacities.

The CompactClean BWMS consists of an automatic backflushing filter, a UV unit, valves, sensors, and controls. This system automatically generates PDF reports that document all the performed ballast water treatment, in a format that is suitable for submission to local port state authorities and others. The system also includes a pump that can be used as a stripping pump under ballast stripping operations, addressing a challenge for BWMS installations.

DESMI Ocean Guard’s CompactClean BWMS received IMO revised G8 Type Approval in September 2018.
