TECHCROSS TO APPLY FOR USCG TYPE APPROVAL FOR ECS-HYCHLOR
The company appointed DNV GL as its independent laboratory to conduct testing for USCG approval in 2016. It noted that testing protocols for US approval are more onerous than those for IMO type approval, with five consecutive successful tests required for each salinity in environmental, land- and ship-based tests. The shipboard test requires the standard to be met five consecutive times in two or more geographical and climatic ballast water conditions for more than 6 months.
Techcross conducted the shipboard tests on a bulker carrier with a set of ECS-Hychlor 2,000 and successfully completed the fifth and final test in Hong Kong on 27 March 2019. Techcross plans to make an application for USCG type approval in June 2019, and expects to obtain the type approval by the end of 2019.
If type approval for ECS-Hychlor is secured, Techcross will have secured USCG type approvals for two types of BWMS with different treatment technologies. Techcross was the first Korean manufacturer to receive USCG type approval, when it received USCG type approval in June 2018 for its full-flow electrolysis ElectroCleen system.
Separately, Techcross notes it has signed a deal with Korean exhaust gas cleaning system supplier Hi Air Korea to develop joint BWMS and scrubber packages for customers. Hi Air Korea accounts for 90 percent of the Korean market in the field of marine and industrial HVAC system, while Techcross has a strong position in the Korean BWMS market, with 200 orders as of March.
