COSCO BWMS system gains USCG type approval
COSCO has become the 21st company to receive the USCG certificate after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application.
The BOS system has been approved for safe area installations for internationally trading vessels. The type approval clarifies that the TA does not apply to installations on US-Flagged vessels.
The USCG TA certificate stipulates a hold time of 48 hours for marine and brackish water, and a hold time of 72 hours for fresh water operations.
BOS employs an ultraviolet disinfection and filtration system, with a filter size of 50μm, circulating the ballast water via the UV reactor before discharge during deballasting.
BOS BWMS is available in different sizes with flow rates of between 100 m3 and 1,200 m3. The USCG TA covers flow rates up to 3,200 m3, which can be achieved by installing units in series.
COSCO had submitted the BOS BWMS for USCG type approval in June 2019.
