USCG approval for Hyde Marine BWMS

The application for the Guardian-US system which uses filtration and UV light was made on 27 December 2019 following independent testing by DNV GL. Approval was granted on 29 April 2020.

Speaking when shipboard testing completed, Steve Schott, president and chief executive of Calgon Carbon which owns Hyde Marine said it was an important achievement. “It was critical to meet our customers’ needs by testing in varied and challenging conditions,” he said.

The treatment principle of the Guardian-US system consists of filtration and UV treatment at intake and UV treatment at discharge. The USCG approval covers models with maximum intake treatment rated capacities between 60 m³/h and 3,000 m³/h.

The final tests were conducted in challenging ‘sweet’ fresh water with less than 1psu, completing shipboard testing in all three salinities and at multiple temperatures across all seasons.

The system was tested with water containing organism counts far exceeding both the IMO and USCG testing requirements and was tested with water with UV transmittance down to 40% UVT.
