BIO-UV Group ships second US Navy BWTS

The tailor-made M series BIO-SEA unit will undergo rigorous testing, following the successful evaluation of the smaller B series unit supplied to BIO-UV Group’s US partner, The Columbia Group.

“We aim to have completed operational and environmental testing for both units by 2026,” said Simon Marshall, BIO-UV Group’s deputy managing director.

“Should all tests pass the US Navy’s compatibility criteria, this will be the first step toward our system achieving navy certifiable status and the objective of manufacturing units in North America.”

Designed specifically for the US Navy, the BIO-SEA M Series completed factory acceptance tests in April 2024 at BIO-UV Group’s facility in Lunel, France.

Meanwhile, the BIO-SEA B unit, installed on a logistics vessel in February 2024, has already undergone over 500 hours of ballasting and deballasting operations.

Currently, the B unit is undergoing electromagnetic interference testing to ensure compatibility with US military standards, before moving on to vibration and shock testing. These trials are part of a programme to meet a US government requirement for a reliable ballast water treatment option for naval vessels.

The BIO-SEA B and M units are designed to handle flow rates up to 300m³/h and 1,000m³/h, respectively.
