Desmi’s global ballast water treatment services with Eurofins
The service, established through a collaboration with Eurofins Maritime Services, integrates Desmi’s expertise in ballast water management systems with Eurofins’ extensive global network of laboratories. Eurofins is renowned for its broad analytical testing capabilities, making this partnership a significant enhancement to Desmi’s service portfolio.
The addition of ballast water testing bolsters Desmi’s ability to support ship operators in maintaining compliance with international and regional regulations. Jonas Bruhn, aftersales & service director at Desmi, highlighted the critical role of the service, particularly in light of evolving regulatory requirements.
“Shipowners and operators face numerous regulations, including the US EPA’s Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements, which mandate annual testing for vessels calling at US ports,” said Bruhn. “Furthermore, IMO’s anticipated testing cycles for five-year and intermediate surveys will reinforce the need for reliable testing services.”
Desmi’s partnership with Eurofins provides customers with a streamlined solution. Testing services can be conducted during routine maintenance visits for ballast water management systems or as a standalone service, offering flexibility and convenience.
With a presence in major maritime hubs such as Shanghai, Busan, Singapore, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Dubai, and Miami, Desmi’s service teams ensure global coverage. This wide reach is further enhanced by Eurofins’ laboratory network, allowing Desmi to conduct tests at any port where a ship may call.
“The benefit for owners, operators, and technical managers is clear,” Bruhn explained. “They now have a global one-stop shop for proper sampling and testing. Should there be inconsistencies in quality, Desmi also offers expert advice to help vessels return to compliance.”
The collaboration is particularly timely as the maritime industry navigates regulatory milestones, such as the D2 ballast water standard deadlines and a growing focus on environmental compliance. Desmi’s expanded services cater not only to retrofitted vessels but also to new builds and the broader aftermarket.
This partnership exemplifies Desmi’s and Eurofins’ shared dedication to ensuring that maritime operations are environmentally responsible and compliant with the highest standards. As Bruhn emphasised, “This collaboration provides peace of mind for our customers, enabling them to confidently navigate global waters.”
