The retrofit saw a ECS 1000B model installed on the 50,400 dwt tanker owned by Horizon Tankers, using Techcross’ Engine Room Solution. The retrofit installation case was carried out at a Chinese repair shipyard, in close collaboration with Techcross’ Greek engineering partner, Alpha Marine Consulting P.C.

Alpha Marine Consulting is promoting similar projects for tanker owners, citing the potential for achieving installation cost savings for engine room retrofits.

Techcross notes that its Engine Room Solution can be installed with a non-explosion proof type that can help reduce more than 20% of purchasing and installation costs. Typically, BWMS installations on board tankers are specified with a more costly explosion-proof type or require the construction of a separate room on the deck for safety reasons.

Additional cost savings of 2~30% in installation can be achieved by removing the pipes installed for flow measurement during deballasting and leaving only the sampling lines. This is also expected to lower opex costs over the longer-term.

Techcross also expects this installation case to be a good opportunity for customers who own existing tankers. Furthermore, Techcross is striving to provide the optimal solution that can achieve both reasonable cost and operational efficiency, with a focus on Europe.
