Optimarin highlights ‘galvanised’ BWMS market
Optimarin sold more than 60 units last year and in 2018 has signed contracts to supply another 50. Besiktas Shipping, Eureka Shipping, Solvang, Koyo Kaiun and Ahrenkiel are among companies to have placed recent orders.
Tore Andersen, CEO, Optimarin, said: “[This] demonstrates not only the market’s faith in our technology, compliance and business stability, but also that shipowners and operators are now being galvanised into action by the ratification of IMO’s Ballast Water Management convention.
The Norwegian firm has sold nearly 600 of its Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS), which have received both US Coast Guard and IMO type approvals. Around 140 of its systems have been retrofitted.
Andersen added: “We expect the market to continue accelerating and are looking to sign more framework agreements in the immediate future. We now expect 2018 to be our best year in business.”
